Background: evidence-based clinical practice places nurses within a professional discipline that provides the foundation for interventions to be original, innovative and individualized.
Aim: to analyze the relationship between the nursing practice environment and job performance.
Methods: an observational, retrospective cross-sectional study was designed, taking as study sample 53 staff nurses in the year 2022 in a public health facility in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.
Results: when correlating the dimensions of the evidence-based nursing practice environment with the global work performance indicator, a statistically significant correlation was found with the capacity, leadership and support to nurses by nurse managers (rho=0,354; p=0,0092). On the other hand, correlations with the dimensions nurse involvement in facility issues (rho=-0,144; p=0,3038), nurse rationale for quality of care (rho=0,149; p=0,2874), staffing size and adequacy of human resources (rho=0,149; p=0,2874), and physician-nurse relationships (rho=0,150; p=0,2841) were not significant.
Conclusions: this study provided evidence that nurses perceptions of their practice environment were favorable, except for adequacy of staffing and resources. Nurses' job performance levels were found to be affected by nursing managers' ability, leadership and support of nurses
