This essay addresses the importance of intrinsic motivation in first-year medical students, highlighting how the social environment influences their proactivity or passivity.
The first year is crucial for future doctors due to the need to adapt to new ways of studying and face high levels of stress. The essay analyzes how intrinsic motivation impacts the academic performance, emotional well-being, and professional development of these students. Intrinsic motivation, which arises from interest and the desire for self-improvement, is essential in the educational field, especially in medicine, where the environment is highly demanding. This form of motivation not only facilitates learning, but also protects against demotivation and burnout. Various studies have shown that students with greater intrinsic motivation develop better medical skills and enjoy greater personal satisfaction. The essay aims to explore theories of motivation, characteristics of first-year students, and strategies to foster and maintain intrinsic motivation in the academic environment.
