Assessment of stress, Burnout syndrome, anxiety, and depression in healthcare professionals at Cariamanga Hospital

Abstract

Introduction: the mental health of health personnel is a growing concern, with high work pressure and emotional demands, alterations in this area affect both their well-being and the quality of care they offer. Objective: to evaluate the level of stress, Burnout Syndrome, anxiety and depression in health personnel of the Cariamanga Hospital. Method: a non-experimental, quantitative, descriptive and correlational, cross-sectional research was developed. 64 subjects who work at the Basic Hospital of Cariamanga participated, for their evaluation the following were used: Wolfgang Stress Inventory, Maslach Burnout Inventory and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Results: Among the study subjects, 37.6% suffer from high to severe stress, half suffer from anxiety, with 31.3% of cases experiencing moderate to severe anxiety, and 42.2% show moderate to severe depression. The total number of respondents show emotional exhaustion and depersonalization due to Burnout, with high levels in 50% and 39.1% respectively. The low level of personal achievement predominates (87.5%) and all present a risk of global Burnout, 51.6% moderate and 32.8% high. Among women, moderate Burnout Syndrome predominate and physicians show high levels of anxiety and depression. Conclusions: The study reveals a high frequency of mental health problems such as stress, anxiety, depression and burnout syndrome among the health workers evaluated. These results indicate the need to implement intervention strategies aimed at optimizing emotional well-being in this group
